APHA is the oldest and largest association of public health professionals in the world. APHA provides a searchable web site in support of their mission to protect communities from preventable health threats. The section of the web site devoted to Programs and Resources is of primary interest in the area of Public Health.

This is the home page of the World Health Organization, the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. The site offers many pages of information on the history of WHO and WHO programs. Public Health information is available geographically and by topic. The site also includes data and statistics, as well as links to WHO publications.

The WFPHA was founded in 1967 and the members are national and regional public health associations, as well as regional associations of schools of public health presently numbering more than 70. The site offers links to programs and publications of WFPHA as well as a page of resources featuring links to journals and Global Public Health links.

The mission of the National Association of Local Boards of Health is "to prepare and strengthen boards of health, empowering them to promote and protect the health of their communities through education, training, and technical assistance." The site contains a directory of contact information for local Boards of Health and information on NALBOH educational programs and publications. Of interest is a page with links to each State Board of Health and the corresponding legislative code.

The NPHPSP is a collaboration of public health agencies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who have partnered to develop clear, measurable performance standards for state and local public health systems to help ensure the delivery of the Essential Public Health Services. The site features data collection instruments for health system assessments.

PATH's Vaccine Resource Library (VRL) seeks to gather the world's top immunization resources in a single portal. The VRL offers a wide variety of high-quality, scientifically accurate documents and links to resources on specific diseases and topics in immunization addressed by PATH's work. It is geared toward health professionals in the developing and industrialized worlds, as well as journalists, policymakers, community leaders, parents, and anyone else interested in vaccine-related resources.

The NYSPHA is a professional organization with a mission "to improve community health through education and prevention." Of interest is a page within the site which answers the question "What is Public Health?" and another page called "TrainingNet" which serves as a clearinghouse for public health training and education nationwide.

NYSACHO is a membership organization representing all 58 local health departments. The mission of NYSACHO is "to support local health departments in their efforts to provide and improve essential public health services in their communities." The site includes a link to the parent organization, the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) http://www.naccho.org/.

The Kaiser Family Foundation is a non-profit, private operating foundation which "develops and runs its own research and communications programs, sometimes in partnership with other non-profit research organizations or major media companies" (click here to see more). This web site is full of information with reports of many types (i.e. fact sheets, charts and data, interactive tools, issue briefs, presentations, reports and studies, surveys, testimony). Public Health topics covered in depth include Medicaid, Medicare, Costs / Insurance, Uninsured / Coverage, State Policy, Prescription Drugs, HIV / AIDS, Minority Health, Women's Health Policy, and Entertainment Media Studies.

APIC's mission is to improve health and patient safety by reducing risks of infection and other adverse outcomes. The site features APIC Guidelines and Standards, Public Policy links and extensive Resources links.

ProMed is the FAS policy initiative calling for global monitoring of emerging diseases. This is a very simple web site with links to the International Society for Infectious Disease and WHO Outbreak News, as well as ProMed papers and resources,

Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH)
ASPPH is the voice of accredited academic public health, representing schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Its mission is to advance academic public health by mobilizing the collective power of our members to drive excellence and innovation in education, research, and practice. ASPPH members are CEPH-accredited schools and programs of public health as well as schools and programs in applicant status for CEPH-accreditation.

Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR)
The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) is the national membership association dedicated to advancing prevention and public health education, training, and research. APTR members include preventive medicine programs, graduate programs in public health, medical school departments with a population health focus, health professions schools, and faculty responsible for teaching public health. The APTR Council of Graduate Programs in Public Health supports accredited and emerging graduate programs.
